Gas transmission capacity to Turkey has reached 60 mcm per day with the launching of Tabriz's pressure booster facility, in East Azarbaijan province.
Speaking in a ceremony to inaugurate a number of gas transfer projects in the province on Wednesday, Mohammad-Ali Emam, the managing director of Iranian Gas Transmission Company, further said the capacity earlier stood at 24 mcm per day, Shana reported.
He added the project will help further guarantee the sustainability of gas transfer to the northeast of the country, prepare the ground for more exports to Turkey and Armenia and increase gas swap with Azerbaijan.
"The facility is equipped with a gas electro-compressor which operates on electricity. It also has three electric-motors with a transmission capacity of 36 mcm of gas."
He noted the project involved an investment of €20 million and only domestic peripheral equipments were used.
In recent years, Iran has been taking major steps to boost production and export of natural gas by increasing foreign and domestic investment, especially in its South Pars offshore gas field.
South Pars Gas Field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers lie in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar's territorial waters.
The field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world's reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
