Iran's Ambassador in Bishkek Ali Najafi announced on Sunday that the 11th Iran-Kyrgyzstan Joint Economic Commission meeting is to be held in the Kyrgyz capital in the near future.
Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Najafi underlined the need to boost trade with Bishkek, and said that the Islamic Republic seeks to expand cooperation with Central Asian countries including Kyrgyzstan, particularly in infrastructure projects, Fars News Agency reported.
The ambassador congratulated the Kyrgyz government and nation on Kyrgyzstan's Independence Day on August 31 and hoped that the visit by the Kyrgyz president to Iran next week would open a new chapter in bilateral relations.
He also called on countries in the region to cooperate in fighting extremism and terrorism.
Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev will visit Tehran at the head of a high-ranking politico-economic delegation at the official invitation of President Hassan Rouhani.
During his three-day stay in Tehran, Atambayev will exchange views with his Iranian counterpart and other top officials on ways to further mutual ties.
Iran and Kyrgyzstan have expanded ties and mutual cooperation in various fields since the independence of the Central Asian state in the 90s.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Kyrgyz Ambassador in Tehran Asanbeyk Osman Aliyev last June underlined the need to expand bilateral relations.
"
There is no obstacle to developing cooperation between Iran and Kyrgyzstan," President Rouhani said in the meeting.
