A South African Petroleum Board will travel to Tehran in September to develop cooperation in oil industry, petrochemicals, GLT production units and to resume Iran’s oil export to this African country.
After the visits of South Africa’s Foreign and Energy Ministers and their deputies to Iran during the past few months, an oil delegation of this African country will travel to Tehran in September, MNA reported.
This week, a new round of talks on Iran’s oil started by the meeting of South Africa’s Deputy Energy Minister Thembisile Majola with Iran's Deputy Oil Minister for Planning and Supervision Mansour Moazami in Tehran.
Before sanctions against Tehran, Iran was the largest supplier of crude oil to South Africa and Pretoria imported about 380 thousand barrels of oil per day from Iran, but exporting oil to this country has stopped.
Therefore, during the talks between the petroleum authorities of the two countries several issues have been discussed including the resumption of oil export, participation in new petrochemical projects, GLT production units, refinery in Iran, Iran’s oil export by National Iranian Tanker Company vessels.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Energy Thembisile Majola at the end of her talks in Tehran announced that an expert panel will visit Iran to evaluate the features and capabilities of Iran’s oil and petrochemical industries.
Moreover, South Africa's Energy Department Deputy Director-General Tseliso Maqubela has been assigned as the representative of South Africa for oil negotiations with Iran.
