An Iranian gas official said export of natural gas to Europe is on the agenda, but noted that the government's policy is to prioritize regional states.
Europeans are keen on importing natural gas from Iran via Turkey, said Abdolhossein Souri, a deputy head of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), in the northeastern city of Sarakhs, Khorasan Razavi province,Tasnim News Agency reported.
Oil Ministry's policy is to give priority to regional countries and to have further interaction with them, but gas export to Europe is also on the agenda, he added.
Referring to other plans in the gas sector, Souri said natural gas export will soon start to Iraq as well as Pakistan via the IP gas pipeline.
Turkey is also importing gas at the maximum capacity as per commitments laid down in the contract between the two countries, he added.
Earlier in August, Iran resumed export of natural gas to neighboring Turkey after six days of halt caused by an explosion in the pipeline.
According to BP Statistical Review of World Energy, Iran's proven overall natural gas reserves at the end of 2014 stood at 34 trillion cubic meters which is the highest in the world followed by Russia.
Increased oil and gas exports will come as part of a new wave of trade exchanges after Iran and the P5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran's nuclear program on July 14.
The nuclear deal between Iran and the six powers would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran once it comes into force
