Iran launches border market to export fuel
Pointing to a threefold increase in gasoline sales and exports to neighbor countries, an Iranian official has said that more than 34mn liters gasoline is exported to these countries through border markets.

Reporting on Iran’s plan to increase fluid fuel sales in retail markets and border stations, Commercial Director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) said that, “currently we are selling petrochemical products particularly petrol and gasoline to neighbor countries in the form of retail trade.”

“Having retail trade within a radius of 20 kilometers from the border in Khorasan, South Khorasan, and Sistan-Baluchestan provinces has been put in our agenda,” asserted Mohammad Reza Mazloomi estimating that this new method of offering petrol and gasoline will soon become operational in Kurdistan province as well.

Underlining that fluid fuel sales in border marketplaces have increased by three times, this official reported that, “in July this year, more than 34 million liters of gasoline was supplied through border markets which indicates a growth of about three times compared to the same period last year.”

“It is predicted that with the measures taken, this new approach will fight against the smuggling of petroleum products hence taking some positive steps in dealing with the issue,” emphasaized Mazloomi.

Reiterating that expanding border stations and markets will increase Iran’s gasoline export, this official noted that, “in line with the increase in export and supplying neighbor countries with fuel, we will be able to significantly manage the amount of smuggling in petroleum products.”

According to Mazloomi, various border stations are currently working in several provinces including 2 in Eastern Azerbaijan, 6 in Western Azarbaijan, one in Ardabil, one in Ilam, 6 in South Khorasan, 2 in Kurdistan, 5 in Khorasan Razavi, 3 in Kermanshah, 2 in Khuzestan, one in Gilan, 7 in Sistan and Baluchestan, and one in Golestan.
