Iran-Austria's first MoU for oil cooperation was signed on Tue. between Iran’s Petroleum University of Technology and Petroleum Department of Austria's University of Leoben.
Abdolnabi Hashemi, Head of Iran’s Petroleum University of Technology and Gerhard Thonhauser, Head of the Department Petroleum Engineering at Austria's Montanuniversitaet Leoben signed an MoU on Tuesday and called for the improvement of scientific and engineering cooperation between the two universities.
The MoU was signed at the end of a joint meeting between delegations of Iranian and Austrian companies active in oil and gas industry.
A delegation from Austria's University of Leoben headed by deputy head of International Relations visited Iran last year at the invitation of Iran’s Petroleum University of Technology and discussed potential grounds for expanding research and scientific cooperation between the two countries.
Thonhauser, noting that with the signing of the MoU, cooperation between the Iranian university and Montanuniversitaet Leoben will officially begin, said the two sides have many plans for joint cooperation and will utilize the potentials of industrial sections as well.
The two universities have planned to start cooperation in three key areas including Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods, student exchange and research opportunities, Hashemi said.
Meanwhile, senior Iranian and Austrian officials on Tuesday signed four documents for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the presence of the two countries’ presidents.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Austrian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management Andrae Rupprechter also signed an agreement to boost environmental cooperation.
The Austrian President Heinz Fischer arrived in Tehran on Monday as the head of a 240-member delegation with the purpose of discussing ways to improve Tehran-Vienna relations.
