Iran was the second exporter of crude oil to Turkey during the second quarter of 2015. By supplying one fourth of Turkey's oil needs, Iran has turned into the second exporter of crude oil to that country during January-March 2015.
Turkey imported 488,700 barrels of oil from Iran per day during the period, which is an increase of 72,000 barrels per day against the figure for the first three months of 2014, reported IRNA.
Iraq is the top oil exporter to Turkey. However, it is predicted that Iran will increase oil exports to Turkey in the coming months since sabotage in Iraqi cities have posed obstacles for oil trade.
The removal of sanctions against Iran in the near future will provide good opportunity for exporting more crude oil to Turkey.
At present, Turkey is the only European state to buy oil from Iran.
On July 14, Iran and world's six major powers known as the P5+1 (the US, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China) concluded their negotiations on Tehran's nuclear activities which led to the signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
According to the document, the sanctions will be removed in exchange for some limitations on Iran's nuclear energy program; Iran will be recognized by the United Nations as a nuclear power and will continue its uranium enrichment program.
Iran has repeatedly announced that its nuclear activities are peaceful.
