Ambassador: Algerian President to Send Envoy to Iran Soon
Algerian Ambassador to Tehran Ahriz Abdelmouna'am announced that President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's envoy and the country's energy minister are due to visit Iran on November 23.

"A high-ranking delegation, including a representative of President Bouteflika and Algeria's energy minister, will participate in the 3rd Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Summit which will be held in Tehran on November 23," Abdelmouna'am told FNA on Sunday.

He said that in addition to those officials, the trip of the Algerian housing and health ministers are also on the agenda.

"Also, the second meeting of the joint Iran-Algeria high commission will be held in Algiers in mid September and will be headed by Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal," Abdelmouna'am added.

In July, Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian in a meeting with President Bouteflika invited him to attend the 3rd Gas Exporting Countries Forum Summit in Tehran.

During the meeting in Algiers, the Iranian official extended Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's invitation to the Algerian president.

For his part, Bouteflika voiced his country's willingness to attend the summit at the highest level possible.

Iran is to hold the 3rd GECF Gas Summit on November 23, 2015.

During the meeting, also attended by Algeria’s foreign and energy ministers as well as Iran’s ambassador to Algiers, Chitchian and Bouteflika also discussed economic ties.

Pointing to a decline in global oil prices, the African president called for increased consultation between Iran and Algeria to address the economic consequences of falling crude prices.

For his part, Chitchian called for efforts to enhance mutual economic ties and to prepare the ground for stronger presence of the Iranian companies in the African country.

Algeria, Africa's largest gas producer, is one of the 13 members of the GECF and supplies a fifth of Europe's gas needs.

Members of the forum include Iran, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.

Gas producers formed the group over a decade ago. The GECF says its members control 80 percent of world gas production and 70 percent of LNG production.
