Crude oil recovery from West Karoun oilfields will reach 260,000 barrels per day by March 19, according to the operator of the region.
Managing director of Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) said the first phase development of Yadavaran — an oilfield in West Karoun — will be complete in the near future adding 85,000 bpd to the country's crude oil output, Shana reported.
Abdolreza Haji-Hosseinnejad said more than 45 million barrels of oil have so far been recovered from the field, of which 35 million barrels have been pumped during the past two years.
West Karoun region is being studied jointly by PEDEC, Arvandan Oil and Gas Company and National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC).
Initial estimates put the capacity of in situ oil reserves in Yadavaran field at 17 billion barrels. In the latest estimates, this figure has doubled to stand at over 34 billion barrels, said Haji-Hosseinnejad.
A master development plan (MDP) has been drawn up for the field, he noted adding that the field's output will reach 300,000 b/d once the plan becomes operational.
Located 70 kilometers southwest of the oil-rich city of Ahvaz, Yadavaran is currently producing 50,000 bpd.
Oil Ministry has focused on oil production from Yadavaran, North Azadegan, South Azadegan, North Yaran and South Yaran oil fields. All the fields are shared with Iraq.
