Deputy for Iran National Petrochemical Industries, Mohammad Hassan Peivandi said Iran is building world’s largest methanol unit with a capacity of two million tons per annum (7,000 tons per day) in the Persian Gulf city of Bandar Dayyer, south of the country.
Talking in the opening ceremony of an exhibition on investment opportunities in post-sanctions era here on Tuesday, Peivandi said five million tons of methanol is currently produced in the country 300,000 of which are consumed inside and the rest exported.
He said 19 million tons of methanol projects are presently under implementation under the Chinese and European licenses.
Referring to the close link between the pet-chem industry and the practice of resistance economy, he said despite Iran’s capacity for production of 60 million tons of kinds of petrochemical items, it is producing only 45 tons for a number of reasons.
The official said despite spread of terrorist groups like Daesh in the region, foreign investors are looking at Iran as an absolutely stable country.
