Iran and India agreed to expand maritime cooperation following the removal of sanctions against the Islamic Republic, said the managing director of Iran-India Shipping Corporation
Based on agreements between Tehran and New Delhi, the two countries intend to boost trade and sea transport, said Jamshid Khalili on Saturday, IRNA reported.
The two sides have agreed to tackle shipping problems between the two nations, he said.
The Indian side has pledged to issue permanent shipping licenses for Iranian vessels to overcome insurance problems for Iranian ships, he said. Presently the licenses issued to Iranian vessels are only valid for one year.
Iran and India have very good port and maritime infrastructures and by boosting cooperation in this sphere, the two nations can support bilateral trade, Khalili added.
In recent years, Iran and India have done a lot to speed up the completion of joint transit and transport projects in the port city of Chabahar in southern Iran.
