Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak is to arrive in Tehran today for trade and economic talks with Iranian officials.
He is heading a senior economic delegation and will begin negotiations in Tehran on Tuesday, IRNA reported.
The objective of his visit is to boost trade and economic relations between the two countries in the post-sanctions era.
During the four-day visit, the delegation, which includes six ministers, will explore ways of enhancing economic exchanges between the two nations.
The Thai deputy prime minister is also accompanied by 70 Thai merchants, industrialists, bankers and senior private sector managers.
On Wednesday, Iran's Ambassador to Thailand Mohsen Mohammadi said that the Thai official will confer on expansion of mutual ties after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the lifting of unfair sanctions against Iran.
Jatusripitak will meet President Hassan Rouhani and Vice President Mohammad Shariatmadari to discuss ways of promoting bilateral relations.
Mohammadi said Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai as well as ministers of science and technology, finance, energy and trade will accompany the Thai deputy prime minister on his visit.
The Thai foreign minister was invited by Iranian Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mohammadreza Nematzadeh to visit the Middle East nation to attend the ninth meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic, Commercial, Industrial, Technical, Agricultural and Scientific Cooperation between Thailand and Iran.
Pramudwinai has been asked to chair the opening session of the joint meeting.
Both countries have agreed to help each other meet their needs. Iran can export fuel to Thailand and provide energy security, while Thailand can export rice and rubber, providing food security and supporting industrial productivity.
