Iran, Georgia endorse gas deal
Iran and Georgia have inked a four-month contract for exporting a total of 40 million cubic meters of Iranian gas.

 

Following a meeting held last week between Iranian and Armenian officials over gas transit through Armenia, a short-term agreement on natural gas exports has been inked between Iran and Georgia.

On the basis of the pilot contract, an overall amount 40 million cubic meters of Iranian gas will be shipped to Georgia through the Armenian route.

Head of National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC) Alireza Kameli described details of the newly-inked deal saying “the agreement has been sealed with the Georgian International Energy Corporation (GIEC) and 40 million cubic meters of natural gas will be transferred over a period of four months.”

Kameli emphasized on the trial nature of the reached agreement commenting “full and long-term implementation of the contract is subject to obtaining necessary permits from Armenia.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s Oil Ministry has reported that GIEC is active in areas of power generation and transmission, hydroelectric facilities as well as power houses in addition to import and distribution of gas to industrial customers; “the Georgian firm, which is a subsidiary of Georgian Industrial Group, was founded in 2005 and in headquartered in Tbilisi.”

Last week, Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh, following a meeting with Armenian Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources Levon Yolyan, reported on the signing of a small deal with a Georgian buyer for gas sales expressing hope that the agreement will become operational in the current year in collaboration with Armenia.
