Pakistan is getting ready to host the 13th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) this year.
Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nafees Zakaria told IRNA that that ECO, which is a priority area for Pakistan, held its last summit in 2012 and now it is Pakistan's turn to host the meeting.
"Preparations are ongoing to arrange the ECO summit in Pakistan," he said.
The member states of the organization are Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Its official website says Pakistani will host summit on March 1. Iran is a leading member of the grouping.
In response to another question, Zakaria said that no head of government or head of state or foreign minister of any country has been officially invited to the oath- taking ceremony of new US President Donald Trump.
He said that Pakistan is looking forward to working closely with the incoming US administration.
To another question, he said that Pakistan rejects baseless allegations of the Afghan government against Pakistan about the poor security situation of the country. He said that such allegations are unhelpful for the peace process of Afghanistan.
He added that numerous reports confirming the poor security situation in Afghanistan is due to their internal problems.
The spokesman said Pakistan is committed to peace and stability in Afghanistan. He said 'we believe that peace' in Afghanistan is in Pakistan's interest and also necessary for the region's stability and progress.
