Gas production in South Pars Gas Field, Bushehr province, has reached 440 mcm per day, said the managing director of Pars Special Economic Energy Zone.
Mehdi Yousefi said in a meeting with Fathollah Norouzi, the governor of Jam county, that due to its huge oil and gas reserves, the region enjoys a high status in domestic economy, Shana reported.
"SP gas field is unique in the world. It accounts for 8 percent and 50 percent of the global gas production and Iran's gas reserves, respectively. Gas output has increased 35 percent in the past 18 months thanks to the efforts of the 11th government. Currently, the field produces 440 mcm of gas. The figure is expected to reach 800 mcm per day in the near future."
Although the oil industry is under strict international sanctions, 25 petrochemical complexes are operating in the SP, which indicates a sustainable growth in the field's gas output, he said.
Yousefi noted [studies show that] huge gas and oil reserves are located off Bushehr along the Persian Gulf coastline.
