Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow has briefly reviewed Iran-Russia trade in recent years.
Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei evaluated on his social network page the trends in two countries’ trade transactions within the years of 2012 to 2015.
The ambassador has used the official statistics released by Russian Customs Department according which the downward trends of 2012 and 2013 stopped in 2014 with 5% increase in trades totaling $1.7 billion.
The Iranian official also reported 10% rise in trades comparing the first quarter of 2014 and 2015.
Sanaei speculated that the number should be higher as the indirect transactions via neighboring countries like Turkey, and other states of Central Asia and the Caucasus are not considered.
Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow called the total value of the trade far less than the real capacity expressing hope to see speeding upward trend in Iran-Russia transactions.
Moreover, Sanaei quoted the Head of Iran-Russia Trade Council Dr. Victor Melnikov as saying that the bilateral trade volume would get to $10 billion after the recent agreements are functionalized.
The ambassador also recounted the recent meeting of Iran’s President Rouhani in the Russian city of Ufa with his Russian counterpart in which the two sides expressed discontent with limited volume of trade between the two nations putting in perspective higher trade in near future.
