Turkmen Foreign Minister Rasit Meredow said on Sunday that the value of bilateral trade between Iran and Turkmenistan last year reached over $4 billion, stressing that the figure can further increase.
Speaking to Shana, the top Turkmen diplomat said good efforts have been made to promote relations between the two countries over the past two years.
He added that there are still many other areas for further promotion of mutual cooperation between Iranian and Turkmen companies.
Meredow also pointed to recent reciprocal visits by the Iranian and Turkmen presidents, saying that at their orders, mutual cooperation between the two states would be further boosted.
Earlier in March, Rouhani made a two-day official visit to Ashgabat at the invitation of his Turkmen counterpart.
During the visit, he announced that Iran and Turkmenistan have decided to increase the total value of their economic exchanges from the existing $3.7 billion to $60 billion in a ten-year period
"We decided today to triple the volume of exchanges between the two countries via railroad transportation … and double the volume of exchanges via railroad transportation," the Iranian president said at the time.
