Iran doubles sulfur production, eases export
With rise in Iran’s sulfur production, Oil Ministry has allowed export of sulfur by petrochemical companies.

After tapping new phases of South Pars gas field in southern Iran, Iran’s sulfur production increases to 1,550 tons a day. In addition to 170 to 175 million cubic meters increase in gas production, the streaming of these 5 phases of the major shared gas field South Pars has also doubled Iran’s sulfur production capacity.

The refinery of Phase 12 has a capacity of 750 tons a day of sulfur production which jointly with the refineries of Phases 15, 16, 17, and 18 will add 1,550 tons to the total capacity of Islamic Republic of Iran.

China, Latin American states, Pakistan, Asian and South Asian countries, African Countries and India are among the main importers of Iranian sulfur. Iran exported 85 percent of its sulfur output during March 21-August 22, 2014 while refineries produced 367,000 tons of sulfur in this period.

Following the surge in production, oil ministry obviated the bureaucratic process needed to be observed by the petrochemical companies for exporting the product
