Thailand is willing to send a delegation to Iran for talks on expanding economic cooperation and boosting joint investments.
Speaking in Bangkok on Tuesday, Hossein Kamalian, Iran's ambassador in Bangkok, further said Thailand has voiced interest in boosting joint business activities in Iran, particularly following the UN Security Council endorsement of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and P5+1 and the increased probability of the removal of sanctions, IRNA reported.
Chutima Bunyapraphasara, the permanent secretary of Thai Commerce Ministry, also told IRNA on Tuesday that Thai officials have announced their country's willingness to further enhance economic cooperation with Iran.
Bunyapraphasara hoped Thai exports to Iran, a traditional importer of Thai products, will increase.
She said Thailand can import a larger number of commodities from Iran due to the open nature of its economy.
Thai Commerce Minister Chatchai Sarikulya had on Monday claimed that Iran is eager to purchase rice from Thailand.
A report by Reuters said the Thai delegation is scheduled to visit Iran by end of this month.
Kamalian however said that while the date for the visit and the issues to be discussed have not yet been decided, the Thai side had conveyed its interest during joint meetings.
Iran is Thailand's 11th trade partner in the Middle East. Trade between the two countries stood at $357 million in the year to March 20, 2015. The figure however reached $140 million during March 21-July 22, 2015.
